K commented last night that I haven't posted in awhile...it's been almost a week now. So, what's new? Well, not much. Things just continue to roll along. Funny how life works like that.
On Saturday morning, bright and early, K and I made our way up I-35 to Georgetown for the Rogue long run. I think it was the 1st long run of the Spring Marathon program that I actually attended. I've been slacking on getting my long runs in on my own lately, too, so I knew going into it that it might not be good. But, the run was our 1st 14-miler, so I knew that it was critical to commit. And, I did...with K's encouragement when the alarm clock went off at 5:30am, we got out of bed and hit the road. The run was an out and back from the new Runtex store up there, mostly on a paved trail with nice scenery, including deer and trees. Speaking of trees, this was my 1st run with my new geek-o-meter and the distance turned out to be quite off, so I wonder if the trees were a factor with the GPS. Who knows? I didn't have any pace goals for this run, just nice and easy to cover the distance. I felt the lack of training during the 2nd half of the run, but I wouldn't say that it was terrible. In fact, the GREAT thing about the run was that I had no shin pain whatsoever! I didn't think it was even possible! I actually had a massage on Friday after work, so I'm sure that helped. The massage therapist noticed such an improvement in my calves, too. I hope this continues.
K and I were extremely sore after the run and pretty much did a bunch of nothing for the rest of the weekend. With how busy we have been over the past month, it was a nice change of pace to some extent. We're already planning our next trip though, so the rest will be short-lived. We're going to Winter Park to ski next weekend, Jan. 19-22.
And, for those of you who don't live with a college football fanatic, today is a BIG DAY...the end of the college football season (yeah!!!). The BCS national championship game is tonight. OSU vs. LSU. I'm sure you don't have to guess who we'll be rooting for. I told K that we're going to try out my new heart rate monitor on him during the game tonight.
