Well, the running "breakthrough" that I posted about last week turned out to be just that. I was worried that it would be a fluke, but it wasn't. After the first trial run following the breakthrough PT session last week, K and I hit the trail again the next night. I was able to tolerate slightly longer (a whopping 2 minutes) and we went farther that night in terms of total distance. I noticed that I am extremely skittish with uneven surfaces though, so I thought it would be a good idea to try running in our neighborhood for our next run. So, I did a "long run" (HA!) on Saturday morning of 1+ mile with my longest stretch of running around 3:30 minutes. I felt so hopeful! Last night, we ventured over to the paved path at Dick Nichols park by our house for 2 full loops (probably slightly over 2 miles total) with my longest stretches of running around 5:40 and 4:30 minutes. Breakthrough indeed! I would love to build up to a full mile in the next week (gotta clear that with PT boss man today first though). After 5 months of ambiguity, I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and am hopeful that I'm in the all clear now. So much so that I am plotting my comeback and have my eye on a 5k in San Diego while we're there for a conference in mid-August. I think if I can get up to a mile in the next week or so then I'll have a few more weeks to build up once we get back from France. I think 3.1 might be do-able, especially since it's a run/walk for psychologists and I know I can walk when/if I need to. I need this so much for my emotional/mental well-being.
Things are also going well with my practice. It's been a little over a month since I saw my first client, and the financials aren't too shabby for just getting started. I feel confident that things will continue to grow and develop, particularly as I just got confirmation of the completion of my credentialing for another big insurance provider. Several more should be coming through in the next few weeks as well, I think. I LOVE the flexibility that private practice offers. I am so thankful to K for supporting me in taking this risk. I had a clear moment of gratitude about a week ago as I was scoring the neuropsych assessment that I did when I realized how much I love and missed doing this. Without K's support this would not have been possible.
We are eagerly looking forward to our trip to France, and have been busy getting our final plans and arrangements made. Less than 2 weeks to go! We're spending our first week in Paris with day trips to Versailles and Reimes. We then head south for a couple of days in Toulouse then join our tour group for stays in Lourdes and Libourne. These are the stages of the TdF that we will be seeing:
Stage 17 High Mountains-Thursday 22 July-Pau > Col du Tourmalet-174 km
Stage 18 Plain-Friday 23 July-Salies-de-Béarn > Bordeaux-198 km
Stage 19 Individual time-trial-Saturday 24July-Bordeaux > Pauillac-52 km
Stage 20 Plain-Sunday 25 July-Longjumeau > Paris Champs-Élysées-102.5 km
Once in a lifetime!
