Finally...

After many challenging months, the moment finally arrived when I was able to run a mile again. I got the all clear from my PT last Monday to continue building up as tolerated. So, K has been joining me each day to monitor my running form and provide moral support as I slowly tried adding about a minute each time. Just as folks were getting ready to set off firecrackers in the neighborhood last night to celebrate the 4th of July, I had my own occasion to celebrate as I finally reached my goal of running a mile without stopping. It was a slow as molasses 10:00 minute pace that felt like 8:00 minute effort, but I have to start somewhere. I haven't quite advanced to making turns yet while running, so I much prefer long straightaways at the moment. And, hills? Forget about it. Managing an incline while walking is challenging enough for me right now because of my still somewhat limited range of motion in my ankle. No uneven surfaces either. So, I need straight, flat, even terrain. No trail running in my near future. I'm just thankful to be able to run again right now, so I'll deal with the slow, limited routes for awhile. I have decided to run the 5k in San Diego for the American Psychological Association while we're there for the conference in mid-August. So, I'll be bringing along my running shoes to continue building up to 3 miles while we're in France over the next couple of weeks. Running along the Seine sounds pretty good!

It's finally time for our big trip that we've been looking forward to for some time now. We head out to France on Saturday. We've enjoyed watching the start of the Tour, and our excitement for that part of the trip has been building. We went to the kick-off party at Mellow Johnny's on Saturday to get pumped up. My favorite costume was this guy with a dartboard of Contador on it:

Go Lance go!
